Species diversity of segetal communities in tuber crops and in winter and spring cereals

Abstract: The work presents the results of studies on the diversity of weed communities in tuber crops as well as in winter and spring cereals under similar climatic and soil conditions. We examined overall species abundance in the groups analysed, the average species number per relevé, as well as weed cover of the study area. Additionally, species composition, number of individual species and their biomass were determined. Dominant species in each crop group were distinguished. Species diversity was determined based on… Show more

“…Both indices (H', D) calculated for weed communities were higher in cereal crops than in tuber crops. Significant differences in H' and D values noted between crops are in agreement with Rzymowska et al [17] who noted the highest biodiversity in winter cereals. In our study, significant differences in weed biodiversity were established only between spring and winter cereal crops.…”

“…Diversity indices are widely used to study biodiversity in agricultural crops. The indices are also used to determine changes in segetal communities [17][18][19].…”

“…A weed community composed of several species can be and often is more harmful than a more diversified community (Anyszka and Kohut 2011). In recent years, ecological indices of species diversity and domination have been used in studies on weed infestation of cropped fields (Shannon 1948;Simpson 1949;Stupnicka-Rodzynkiewicz et al 2004;Skrzyczyńska and Ługowska 2008;Rzymowska et al 2013;Ługowska and Rzymowska 2014).…”

“…The soils represent either a very good or good class of agricultural land suitability. Analysis of dominant species of the cropped land has been presented in a previous paper [13]. Thirty observations were made for each crop group.…”
