“…In a follow up study, 199 Hg-NMR was used to look at HgCl 2 binding to MLVs of PE, PS and egg PC (Delnomdedieu et al, 1992). Although not truly representative of the biological membrane, the single-lipid model systems used confirmed previous results that the amine group is a common binding site in PE and PS lipids (Delnomdedieu et al, 1992). xxx…”

“…This interaction was observed to be independent of acyl chain composition and more importantly, the Hg (II) affinity for PC is much less than for PE and PS. Delnomdedieu et al were unable to detect any interactions between Hg (II) and the PC lipid headgroup using 199 Hg-NMR because of the higher concentrations of Hg (II) needed which may have masked the decrease in PC signal (Delnomdedieu et al, 1992;Girault et al, 1996). In addition, natural membranes have also been used to produce micelle systems.…”

AbstractThe system trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium ([P 66614 ]Cl)/mercury chloride (HgCl 2 ) has been investigated by varying the stoichiometric ratios from 4:1 to 1:2 (25,50,75, 100, 150, and 200 mol % HgCl 2 ). All investigated compositions turn out to give rise to ionic liquids (ILs) at room temperature.
