Abstract:In this work we present an approach for the formal specification and verification of the reconfiguration protocols in Grid component systems. We consider Fractal, a modular and extensible component model. As a specification tool we invoke a specific temporal language, separated clausal normal form, which has been shown to be capable of expressing any ECTL+ expression thus, we are able to express the complex fairness properties of a component system. The structure of the normal enables us to directly apply the … Show more
“…While our initial papers on the resolution based verification of the component model model specifications [3] opened a theoretical prospect of developments in runtime reconfiguration, the complexity of the resolution based verification has raised some concerns with the feasibility of applying this method to a full scale component model. Therefore, there has been a need for complexity reduction.…”

“…Subsequently, the deductive verification method based on the clausal resolution technique is applied to the obtained specifications. In previous research [3], [2], we have showed that this is particularly crucial during critical procedures, such as reconfiguration; and the verification of these type of models can be better achieved through the application of deductive reasoning methods as opposed to others used in similar circumstances.…”

“…Our interest lies in the area of complex information systems that we have proposed to model in a generic multi-layer architecture [1]. Among these layers we distinguish the functionality layer ('FL' for short), the management layer ('ML') and the reasoning layer ('RL').…”

“…Due to the dynamic and non-deterministic nature of the underlying complex systems, we believe that the appropriate formal framework is given in the so called branching-time setting. In [1] we have shown how the specification language of the normal form for branching-time logic [3] can be used in this framework to enable a resolution based deductive verification.…”
