Spectra, stability and labeling of 1‐(5‐carboxypentyl)‐4‐(2‐(N‐ethyl‐carbazole‐3‐yl) vinyl) pyridinium bromide with a large Stokes shift

Abstract: Carbazole and its derivatives have been widely utilized as a functional building block in the fabrication of the organic medicine, pesticides, materials, etc., because of their excellent solubility, stability and biological activity. In this paper, 1-(5-carboxypentyl)-4-(2-(N-ethyl-carbazole-3-yl) vinyl) pyridinium bromide with a large Stokes shift was synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR and MS. The UV/vis absorption and fluorescence spectra in different solvents and at different pH values were investiga… Show more

“…In this paper, the photooxidation rate constant of FP1 is 7.062 × 10 −5 mol min −1 , which is the same order of magnitude with some other carbazole dyes 26 and much smaller than some cyanines reported. 19,28,29 The lower photoreduction rate constant might be attributed to a stable trans structure. 30 …”

“…Many fluorescent molecule dyes were developed, especially the cyanine dyes, which has been widely applied in environmental microbiology studies [ 21 , 22 ]. Carbazole cyanine dyes and the derivatives with the nitrogen heterocyclic structure possess the advantages of large rigid plane conjugate system, large stokes shift, high fluorescence intensity and considerable stability [ 22 , 23 , 24 ].…”

“…Carbazole and its derivatives possess highly conjugated systems, engage in active ICT and are used as electron‐donating chromophores . Carbazole compounds are promising candidates for electroluminescent and photorefractive devices because of their electron‐donating and hole‐transporting properties, and their remarkable application as fluorescent sensors .…”
