Spectral synthesis provides two-dimensional videos on a one-dimensional screen with 360°-visibility and mirror-immunity

Abstract: This text is an electronic preprint of a paper submitted to Applied Optics and is made availabe with permission of OSA. The revised and accepted paper can be found at the following URL on the OSA website: http://www.opticsinfobase.org/ao/abstract.cfm ?uri=ao-53-4-674 Spectral SNS bandwidth and PICS image geometry are calculated using geometric optics and Dispersion Diagrams.

“…Direct-vision prisms have a larger dispersion angle than simple ones, allowing us to double the field of view to about 5 . 41,42 As expected, the final image is a rainbow-colored image of the sunlit scene (Fig. 11).…”

“…The distance from H to A is 1.5 m. Through direct-vision prism P2, a camera photographs toward A from a distance of 1 m. For maximum image sharpness, P1 is not inverted relative to P2 (Ref. 41). (b) Pinhole H (made triangular to show that the shape of the hole does not significantly affect the projected image) and prism P1.…”
