Spectrally multimode integrated SU(1,1) interferometer

Alessandro Ferreri,
Matteo Santandrea,
Michael Stefszky
et al.

Abstract: Nonlinear SU(1,1) interferometers are fruitful and promising tools for spectral engineering and precise measurements with phase sensitivity below the classical bound. Such interferometers have been successfully realized in bulk and fiber-based configurations. However, rapidly developing integrated technologies provide higher efficiencies, smaller footprints, and pave the way to quantum-enhanced on-chip interferometry. In this work, we theoretically demonstrate an integrated architecture of the multimode SU(1,1… Show more

“…Let us now comment the sensitivity that could be achieved with such a state using state-of-the-art photon sources. A Gaussian phase-matching function of SPDC process can be engineered in optical integrated circuit as in [17,52], or by four-wave mixing in atomic media in the group delay regime where the projected pump field is transferred onto the bandwidth with a scaling factor v g , which is the group speed. Typical value of σ is 2π10.9 THz in AlGaAs optical integrated devices [20], or in the order of 0.1 THz in [17].…”

“…To our knowledge, the full reconstruction of the chronocyclic Wigner distribution of the phase matching function W − has not yet been experimentally implemented. Since the spectral bandwidth in [17,51,52] for the optical integrated systems is in the order of 50 GHz, and in bulk system [32] is 250 GHz, the technical challenge is in the required sampling of such a distribution. The smallest frequency shift achievable with nowadays electro-optic modulators is limited to 15 GHz in the telecom band [53].…”

“…Parametric down-conversion (PDC) [1] has become one of the most widely studied optical phenomena, thanks to its relevance for photonic quantum information systems. Various quantum information applications are based on the PDC process, including the preparation of entangled quantum states [2][3][4][5][6], preparation of squeezed states [7][8][9][10], and SU(1,1) interferometry [11][12][13], to name a few.…”
