Abstract:It is shown using Raman scattering experiments with appropriate geometries that the directional effects which have been observed in the spectrum of ice Ih are not of the same kind as occur in ordered piezoelectric crystals, but are caused by a modification in the activity of the one phonon density of states or of certain branches of the dispersion curves, produced by the conditions of incidence and observation.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
