Spectrophotometric Determination of Manganese in Gasoline

Abstract: Manganese present in commercial gasolines as (methylcyclopentadieny1)-manganese tricarbonyl (AK-33X) can be determined spectrophotometrically as permanganate. The manganese compound is decomposed using a solution of bromine in carbon tetrachloride. The manganese is extracted with phosphoric acid, and a mixture of nitric and phosphoric acids is added to oxidize the organic material in the extract.
