Spectrophotometric Determination of Some Cephalosporins in Bulk and in Pharmaceutical Formulations

Abstract: A simple, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the analysis of four cephalosporins, ceftriaxone (CEFT), cefatoxime (CEFX), ceftazidime (CEZD) and cefepime (CEPM) in bulk and in pharmaceutical formulations. The method is based on the diazotization of cephalosporins in acidic medium, followed by coupling with 3-amino phenol (AP), to give orange red colored product having a λ max of 500 nm. The calibration graphs are rectilinear in the concentration ranges 20 -160 μg mL -1 for C… Show more

“…It has excellent coloring properties that stabilize dyes in acidic and alkaline media, absorbs visible frequencies of light being colored compounds from the yellow to red range, in addition to color stability, and is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly compound. Dyes are usually large aromatic molecules consisting of many connected rings attached to vinyl groups, which are more stable [7]- [9]. Most azo dyes are synthesized by diazotization of a primary amine followed by conjugation with one or more electron-rich nucleophiles such as amines or hydroxyl [10], [11].…”

Diazotization method inexpensive and very simple method, the Azo-dye it is very important families of dye, that contain -N=Nband [11,12].…”
