Spectrophotometric Determination of U(VI) with Rifampicin in Soil Samples

Abstract: A validated spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of uranyl ion in soil samples. The method is based on the complexation reaction between uranyl ion and rifampicin in methanol-water medium at room temperature. The method is followed spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance at 375 nm. Under the optimized experimental conditions, Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 1.35-20.25 mg mL -1 with apparent molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity of 8.0 × 10 3 L … Show more

“…In methanol-water medium, RIF formed with UO 2 2+ a 1:1 yellow complex, with an absorption maximum at 375 nm. The linear dependence between the complex absorbance at 375 nm and uranyl ion concentration enabled the quantitative determination of UO 2 2+ from soil in the concentration range 1.35–20.25 µg/mL with LOD and LOQ of 0.20 and 0.61 µg/mL, respectively [ 144 ].…”

“…Two colorimetric systems were constructed using the colorimetric reagents rifampicin and 2-(5bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol (Br-PADAP) that are based on the clear colour changes that occurred during the formation of complexes between the colorimetric reagents and uranyl ions. [48][49][50] With the use of the ''Detect'' application and an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, quantitative detection of UO 2 2+ was accomplished by evaluating S (saturation)…”

Under the optimal experimental conditions, the proposed assay demonstrated good linearity and the detection limit met the requirement for trace analysis, constituting an initial and promising attempt to improve the real-time and practical detection.…”
