Spectroscopic and Activity Studies on Vanadia Supported on Titania and Phosphorus-Modified Titania

Abstract: A series of catalysts with vanadia contents varying between 1 and 14 wt % were prepared on titania (Degussa) and phosphorus-modified titania. The catalysts were characterized by employing BET surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron spin resonance (ESR), FT- Raman (FT-Raman), and 51V solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (51V NMR) spectroscopy. The activities of the catalysts were tested in the ethanol partial oxidation reaction. XRD studies indicated the formation of V2O5 microcrystallites only at the… Show more

“…The decrease in catalytic activity was attributed to the poisoning of surface vanadium oxide sites because of the formation of V−O−P bonds with the surface phosphorus oxide (PO x ) phases. In our earlier investigation on vanadia catalysts supported on phosphate-modified titania for the partial oxidation of ethanol, we also found a decrease in the activity of the catalysts in comparison to V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 catalysts. In the present investigation, we report the synthesis, characterization, and ethanol partial oxidation studies of V 2 O 5 supported on ZrO 2 and phosphorus-modified ZrO 2 .…”

“…Strong influence on the physical properties such as apparent density, volume shrinkage, contact angle, thermal conductivity and optical transparency, etc. [17]. In general metal particles are found to be trapped in the host of silica matrix in very small amount without any bonding with silica network, confirmed by the AAS studies [18].…”
