Spectroscopic and thermal characterization of the host–guest interactions between α‐, β‐ and γ‐cyclodextrins and vanadocene dichloride

Abstract: Host-guest interactions between α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins and vanadocene dichloride (Cp(2)VCl(2)) have been investigated by a combination of thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimeters, PXRD and solid state and solution EPR spectroscopy. The solid state results demonstrated that only β- and γ-cyclodextrins form 1:1 inclusion complexes, while α-cyclodextrin does not form an inclusion complex with Cp(2)VCl(2). The β- and γ-CD-Cp(2)VCl(2) inclusion complexes exhibited anisotropic electron-(51… Show more

“…The aqueous solubility of metallocenes ( i.e. titanocenes) with cytostatic or cytotoxic activities could be enhanced by molecular encapsulation in cyclodextrins, as well as the hydrolytic instability of these compounds could be reduced (by reducing the access of water molecules to the metallocene halide reaction centre) [13,19,25,27]. …”

“…Using these methods, the encapsulation of organic molecules including amino acids [2,31,34] and platinum compounds [4,35] has been described, and evidence for the inclusion of bent metallocenes with confirmed antitumor activity (M = Ti, Mo, Nb, V) in cyclodextrins was provided by various authors [12,13,15,29,33,[36][37][38][39]. Depending on the metallocene, its orientation and hydrolysis state for encapsulation was found to be different.…”
