Spectrum and Presentation of Urinary Bladder Growth: a Single-Center Retrospective Study

Abstract: Introduction: Urinary bladder cancers are heterogeneous diseases consisting of a divergent group of tumors.  Diseases of the urinary bladder, both neoplastic and nonneoplastic contribute to notable mortality and morbidity. Histopathology remains the gold standard of diagnosis. Bladder transurethral resection of the tumor is a therapeutic procedure that ensures the material necessary for histopathological diagnosis because it allows assessment of the degree of differentiation, depth of tumor invasion, parameter… Show more

“…UCB incidence show difference between the sexes. We saw a significantly increased diagnosis rate in male patients, most bladder cancers (87.1%) were recorded in males, this is in agreement with other study (Paudel et al, 2021) with male to female ratio was 4.67. The possible causes for that difference are thought to be different exposure levels to environmental carcinogens, genetic differences, differences in hormonal balance, anatomical differences, social life differences (Türk et al, 2017), where smoking always related to men in our society.…”

“…Approximately 90% of malignant tumors are transitional cell carcinomas. The remaining 10% comprises all other types of carcinomas (Paudel et al, 2021). In this study too, transitional cell carcinoma is the most common bladder tumor (94.8%), while squamous cell carcinoma constitutes (5.1%) of 39 bladder tumors seen over a multi-year period.…”

“…Similar to our results, the study done by Paudel et al also show similar age range of 60-80 years. 11 However, in other studies done by Shah et al 1 Pokar and Prasanna et al 5 the commonest age of presentation was sixth decade of life. The bladder tumors are thought to be commonly found in elderly population because of treatment related toxicity secondary to medical comorbidities with poor immune response.…”
