“…Mechanical ventilation increases the risk for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) since it bypasses the usual host defense mechanisms of the upper airways (Diaconu et al, 2018). Although it was beyond the scope of the study to determine VAP rates, the most frequent organisms isolated were XDR A. baumannii, K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa, which are also commonly isolated among patients with VAP (Golia et al, 2013;Mallick et al, 2015). We found no difference in length of ICU stay between those who had clinical success and failure, although patients who were successfully treated had longer total length of hospital stay.…”
