Spherulitic crystallization of β‐In2Te3 by physical vapour deposition

Abstract: Different morphologies of indium telluride (In 2 Te 3 ) including novel spherulites were crystallized using the physical vapour deposition (PVD) method, by varying the difference in the growth and source zone temperature (ΔT) of a dual zone horizontal furnace assembled indigenously. Whiskers and kinked needles of In 2 Te 3 were grown at ΔT = 250 K and 300 K respectively, maintaining the growth zone at 500 °C. At high supersaturation (ΔT = 400 K), spherulitic crystals were obtained. The stoichiometric compositi… Show more

“…1(b) shows a photograph of the polycrystalline InSe sample, observed at the macroscopic level. Spontaneous nucleation of crystalline clusters occurred at sufficient supersaturation [governed by equation 5], analogous to the findings of Reshmi et al (2011). The temperatures of the zones (T C and T S ) were recorded utilizing chromel-alumel thermocouples.…”

“…Fig. 7 displays the spherulitic crystallization of InSe owing to enhanced mass transport/concentration gradient, analogous to In 2 Te 3 (Reshmi et al, 2011). The masses of these aggregates grown for two, three and four days are equal to 0.026, 0.037 and 0.045 g, respectively.…”

“…An engineering mechanism was proposed for the preparation of Sb 2 Se 3 nanostructures using this one-step growth process, which improved their band gap at room temperature. Prior to growth, the inner walls of the quartz ampoule were thoroughly cleaned to remove external materials, employing soap water, H 2 SO 4 and deionized water, followed by ultrasonic waves as discussed by Reshmi et al (2011). Furthermore, ultrafine cleaning was implemented in order to remove fine impurity deposits by subjecting the ampoule to nitrogen plasma.…”
