Sphingobacterium micropteri sp. nov. and Sphingobacterium litopenaei sp. nov., isolated from aquaculture water

Abstract: Two novel bacterial strains, designated as DN00404T and DN04309T, were isolated from aquaculture water and characterized by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of strains DN00404T and DN04309T were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile, oxidase-positive and catalase-positive. Cells of DN00404T were short rod-shaped and those of DN04309T were long rod-shaped. Strain DN00404T was found to grow at 15–37 °C (optimum, 25–30 °C), at pH 6.0–11.0 (optimum, pH 7.5) and in 0–2.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1.0 %)… Show more

“…At the time of writing, the genus represented by the type species Sphingobacterium spiritivorum, comprised 68 validly published species (https://lpsn.dsmz.de/). Sphingobacterium species have been discovered from diverse environments, including aquaculture water [3], food-waste compost [4], potato stem [5], raw milk [6], rhizosphere [7] and soil [8][9][10]. Members of the genus are characterized by aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, nonspore-forming and yellow-pigmented bacteria, containing high concentrations of sphingophospholipids in their cells.…”

“…Genomic DNA of strains JM10B5a T was extracted from fresh cells, and the 16S rRNA gene sequence was amplified using the universal primers (27F/1492R) as described previously (Zhang et al, 2021 ). Sequencing was performed by GENEWIZ, Inc. (Suzhou, China).…”

“…The genomic DNA of S37H4 T was extracted using the HiPure Bacterial DNA Kit (Guangzhou Magen Biotechnology) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The 16S rRNA gene sequence was amplified using universal primers (27F/1492R) as described previously, and the PCR products were sequenced by GENEWIZ (Suzhou, Jiangsu, PR China) [10]. Similar sequences of 16S rRNA genes were searched for in the EzBioCloud database (https://www.ezbiocloud.net/) [11].…”
