ObjectiveCOVID-19 has varied manifestations and can cause complications that affect quality of life. Spiritual health may be a source of adaptation for these patients. This study investigated the relationship between spiritual health and quality of life among COVID-19 patients with long-term complications in the post-coronavirus era.Participants/methodsThis study enrolled 475 COVID-19 patients through convenience sampling from medical facilities located in the Central Province of Iran. Data collection occurred between November 2022 and July 2023. A demographic checklist was utilized to ascertain the presence of potential COVID-19 complications. Patients exhibiting at least one long-term complication of COVID-19 were classified into the group with complications, while those without such complications were categorized into the group without complications. Subsequently, spiritual health and quality of life were assessed utilizing Paloutzian and Ellison’s Spiritual Well-Being Scale and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), respectively. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS-20.ResultsThe mean scores of spiritual well-being and quality of life for participants without COVID-19 complications were 70.87 ± 22.44 and 61.30 ± 18.33, respectively. In contrast, the mean spiritual health scores and quality of life for participants with COVID-19 complications were 41.20 ± 12.49 and 33.66 ± 1.46, respectively. Moreover, spiritual well-being was positively associated with quality of life among COVID-19 patients (p < 0.05).ConclusionThis study indicates that COVID-19 complications can impair patients’ spiritual health and quality of life, leaving them vulnerable and distressed. However, patients with higher spiritual health can cope better and enjoy a higher quality of life, despite challenges. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of addressing the spiritual needs of patients with COVID-19 complications and providing them with adequate support and care.

A BSTRACT Introduction: Addressing the spiritual needs of patients is an essential component of holistic care in nursing. Acknowledging the spiritual needs of cancer patients enhances the performance of clinical caregivers in providing quality services to such patients. Therefore, caregivers successfully fulfill or decrease the patients’ needs and thus increase their adaptation to crises. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the spiritual needs of cancer patients. In this study, 96 cancer patients were selected from Ayatollah Khansari Hospital in Arak, Iran. The required data were collected through a demographic information form and the Persian version of the Spiritual Needs Questionnaire. Ethical Considerations: Participants’ verbal consent to participate in the study was obtained, and they were assured of anonymity and confidentiality. Results: In the present study, the mean age of the participants was 47.82 ± 14.34 years. The frequency distribution of respondents by gender was 36 males (37.5%) and 60 females (62.5%). The mean scores of spiritual needs in the domains of religious needs, need for inner peace, existential needs, and need for giving/generativity were 12.03 ± 3.18, 7.26 ± 3.26, 4.61 ± 2.96, and 4.06 ± 2.32, respectively. The highest and lowest mean values were associated with religious needs and need for giving/generativity, respectively. Religious needs showed a significantly positive relationship with gender, occupation, and the type of treatment ( P < 0.05). Moreover, a significant relationship was observed between the need for peace and level of education ( P < 0.05). Conclusion: The recognition of the spiritual needs of cancer patients is the first step in prioritizing and planning to provide spiritual care to these patients and supporting them in adapting to and coping with the disease. Therefore, nurses need to acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills required to identify these needs.

Introduction: Unplanned pregnancy has adverse maternal-fetal and family consequences. This study aims to investigate the effect of Transactional Analysis (TA) training on the quality of life and marital intimacy of women with unwanted pregnancies. Methods In a semi-experimental study of pre-test and post-test types with a control group, among 250 volunteer women with unplanned pregnancies referring to Kausar Clinic in Arak city, 64 people were randomly assigned into two control and intervention groups. The intervention group received eight two-hour Transactional Analysis training on quality of life and marital intimacy. World Health Organization quality of life questionnaire - short form and Bagarozi marital intimacy questionnaire were completed by two groups before and immediately after the end of the intervention. Data were analyzed by chi-square, independent t and paired t tests in Spss version 26 software. Results The average age of participants was 31.2 ± 4.9 years. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the mean quality of life and total and all dimensions of marital intimacy scores of the intervention group and the control group before the intervention (Ƥ<0.005). A better increase in the quality of life in the intervention group (60.16 ± 5.6) compared to the control group (39.59 ± 5.46) and an increase in the average total score (intervention 283.14 ± 7.92 to control 186.81 ± 7.34) and all dimensions of marital intimacy in the intervention group were significant compared to the control group (Ƥ=0.001). Conclusion The results of the present study showed that Transactional Analysis training improved the quality of life and marital intimacy of women with unwanted pregnancies.
