Abstract:Mechanochemistry has proved to be a powerful tool to map the stress distribution and quantify covalent bond scission occurring when model polymer networks, such as elastomers and gels, are deformed and fractured. In the current work, we incorporate a mechanochromic non-scission type mechanophore, spiropyran (SP), in the elastomeric matrix of nanosilica-filled crosslinked poly(ethylacrylate) nanocomposites (PEANC) containing different filler volume fractions and different filler/matrix interfacial properties. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
