Split distribution, biogeography and morphological and genetic diversity of the Iberobathynellini Tribe in the family Parabathynellidae (Crustacea, Malacostraca, Bathynellacea)

Abstract: The “Iberobathynella group”, or Iberobathynellini tribe, is a complex of six genera consisting of 33 nominal species and several cryptic species with an amphiatlantic distribution (in Europe, North Africa and North America). A modern systematic revision of this group of subterranean crustaceans is presented here. A phylogenetic and biogeographic study using morphological and molecular data (mitocondrial coi and nuclear 18S) was carried out and allowed to a) re-evaluate the taxonomic status and validity of prev… Show more

“…'sp. Biologic-pbat023' represented by a juvenile with only four pairs of thoracopods and The coi and 12S uncorrected P-distance amongst the lineages in the area (tables 4 and 5) is within the molecular distances previously found in Parabathynellidae (Abrams et al, 2013;Camacho et al, 2018;Camacho et al, 2022;Matthews et al, 2020;Perina et al, 2023a, b). The molecular interspecific variation was high in both 12S (23.3-34.6%) and coi (14.5-20%) genes, and low at the intraspecific level (e.g., 12S gene ~ 4.3% and coi ~ 4.8%), as previously found in Atopobathynella species (Perina et al, 2023b).…”
