Abstract: Spontaneous regression is not always synonymous with complete cure from the underlying disease but may represent a temporary regression due to host protective mechanisms. In our patient regression and cure were complete.

“…However, there are conflict results regarding its effects on the immune system of cancer pathogenesis in the literature. 26 , 27 In our study, patients with atypical MBC present significant superior rates of RFS, which is not previously reported in the literature. We thought it was due to less tumor growth and angiogenesis with fewer lymphocytes, and mononuclear infiltration in atypical MBC.…”

“…The spontaneous regression of malignant tumors is occasionally observed. 3,4 Inhibition of tumor growth and angiogenesis by biopsy-induced immunologic process is proposed as the main mechanism of spontaneous regression of malignant tumors. 3,4 However, none of the reported cases with FSCH was found to regress sponta- neously or after biopsy, and it is unclear whether this mechanism can be applied to this benign tumor or not.…”

“…5 Tumors with a tendency for spontaneous regression include testicular germ cell tumors, cutanenous melanomas, basal cell carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma and rarely breast carcinoma, carcinoma colon and neuroblastoma. 5 Ocular and periocular malignancies, rarely regress spontaneously but this phenomenon has been reported with periocular basal cell carcinoma, 11 sebaceous gland carcinoma, 12 eyelid Merkel cell carcinoma, 13 conjunctival lymphoma, 14 conjunctival melanoma 15 ocular surface squamous neoplasia, 610 keratoacanthoma, 8 choroidal melanoma, 16 retinoblastoma 17 and intraocular lymphoma. 18 The present study focussed on the clinical features and outcomes in spontaneously regressed presumed OSSN lesions of which, the literature is limited to isolated case reports.…”
