(26) Bei der Auswertung von Sprichwortinterpretationen, aber auch im unstrukturierten Gespräch mit schizophrenen Patienten fiel uns auf, daß entgegen einer populären Vormei-nung schizophrene Patienten nicht ein besonders bizarres und phantasiereiches Sprachspiel beherrschen, sondern daß sie eher die konnotative Vielfalt sprachlicher Zeichen reduzieren, um in einer kommunikativ überforderten Situation einen "Halt im Konkreten" zu finden. This study originated from a phenomenological and speech-act theoretical concept of schizophrenic concretism. An experimental study was performed showing a highly significant lack in the schizophrenic patients' ability to use metaphors correctly. Basing on the interpretation of proverbs, the hypothesis is rejected that false interpretations of schizophrenic patients are due to intermingling of personal conflicts. On the other hand, it could be shown that concretistic interpretations of proverbs represent an avoidance of conflicts. The concepts of "substitution" and "transfer" enabled us to measure pathological concreteness and "deconflictualisation". The differentiation between schizophrenic and nonpsychotic patients was found to be highly significant. In a complementary study it could be shown that the chronic schizophrenics' disability to transfer images of proverbs to an interpersonally relevant context does not differ significantly from that of patients with their first schizophrenic episode. Discussing our empirical findings, we try to show that the concretistic reduction of thought and speech is also a paradigma of delusion. The "incorrigibility" of schizophrenic delusion was seen to be based on reification of verbal signs and metaphors. After trying to show a connection between the concretistic "Lebensform" (Wittgenstein) and the disordered intentionality of schizophrenic patients, pointers towards psychotherapeutic implications are given.

“…as black as night, as busy as a bee, as quick as lightening, as sly as a fox, etc. Of all the proverbial forms identified by SEILER 1922, TAYLOR 1931, WHITING 1932, RÖHRICH & MIEDER 1977and MIEDER 2004, the comparison is arguably one of the most collected and least analysed in international languages. In spite of a clear interdisciplinary relevance to scholarly fields such as linguistics, paremiology, folkloristics and ethnology, and a plethora of material in seminal sources such as ERASMUS' Parabolarum, sive Similium liber (1514), RAY's A collection of English proverbs (1670), HAZLITT's English proverbs and proverbial phrases (1869) and Lean's collectanea (LEAN 1902), 4 the proverbial comparison remains a relatively under-analysed form.…”

The Irish proverbial comparison 'chomh + ADJ + le + NP' 1 Zusammenfassung Dieser Aufsatz bietet eine qualitative und quantitative Analyse eines Korpus sprichwörtlicher Vergleiche in der neuirischen Sprache-mit dem Muster chomh + Adj + le + Np-auf der Grundlage mehrerer Materialsammlungen, die im 20. Jahrhundert erschienen sind. Nach einem Überblick über Form und Funktion von Vergleichen werden 585 solcher irischen Redewendungen daraufhin untersucht, wie häufig die jeweiligen Vergleichsadjektive (‚Themen', ‚grounds') und verglichenen Nominalphrasen (‚Bildspender', ‚vehicles') im Gesamtkorpus belegt sind. Dem folgt eine qualitative Analyse dieser Ausdrücke, insbesondere danach, welchen Wortfeldern sie enstammen, und die häufigstbelegten Verbindungen zwischen ‚ground' und ‚vehicle' erlauben einen Einblick, zu welchem Grad der Aspekt der Funktion-sei sie erklärend oder humoristisch-die Auswahl der verwendeten Wörter beeinflusst.
