Stability analysis of a DC microgrid with master-slave control structure

Abstract: Nowadays there is an increasing interest on dc microgrid for its higher energy efficiency and higher reliability as compared to the ac system. This paper addresses the stability problem in a dc microgrid with master-slave control structure. Considering the discrete sampling and control algorithm in a digital system, the small-signal models of this dc microgrid have been derived in the z plane. Eigenvalue analysis results show that the system stability and transient response will be affected by the variation of… Show more

“…Taking into account the tradeoff between current sharing between distributed resources and DC bus voltage stability when using traditional sag control in a DC MG, [31] proposes a robust adaptive control to modify the sag characteristics to satisfy current sharing and bus voltage stability. The authors of [32] proposes an adaptive sag controller to address the issue with conventional sag control.…”

“…Therefore, the DC microgrid has the advantages of simple control, high efficiency, flexibility, low construction cost [2], and broader application prospects in electric vehicles, residential load power supply and other fields [3]. In DC microgrids, the bus voltage becomes the only standard by which to measure the power balance of system, since the system does not need to consider reactive power [4]. In the DC microgrid, new energy sources such as DG and ESSs are usually connected to the DC bus through the source converters.…”

“…A complex three-level distributed control scheme is proposed in [38], where the system-level information is shared with the second-level control through a communication link with a delay. A simpler version of a hierarchical control scheme, i.e., master-slave based control, is applied in [33], [39], wherein the local controller plays the role of the slave. The centralized master-level controller broadcasts the global status of the PV sources and reduces fluctuations in the system.…”
