“…For the 66 subjects having motive scores at both points, the stability of n Power was r (64) = .24, p < .05. This is lower than the stability typically reported for motive measures (although it is consistent with that noted by Skolnick, 1966, for women's n Power over 20 years using different picture cues at the two administrations). The stability of n Power over time for the untransformed scores was higher, in part because of the disproportionate influence of two subjects whose scores were high outliers at both time points.…”

“…The n Ach scores increased significantly from a mean of 3.7 in 1967 to 6.2 in 1981 ( SD s = 4.3 and 4.2, respectively), correlated t (61) = −3.57, p < .001. The longitudinal Pearson product-moment autocorrelation, r (60) = .16, is low, especially compared with Skolnick's (1966) correlation of .24 over 20 years using different picture cues at the two administrations. This apparent temporal instability of n Ach is probably due to interindividual differences in family cycle stage and home versus work involvement (Baruch, 1967) and to effects of work situation on n Ach as discussed here.…”

“…Table 1 presents the relations among the four kinds of imagery at the two periods: these findings, plus results pertaining to the stability of TAT imagery, are discussed more fully elsewhere (Skolnick, 1966).…”

“…Again, "power" seems to have a different meaning in men and women. Power is, of course, particularly salient for the masculine sex role, and tends to be relatively stable in males over time (Kagan & Moss, 1962;Skolnick, 1966). Veroff et al (1960) found men in the highest and lowest status groups (managers and blue-collar workers) to be higher in power imagery than professionals and white-collar workers, possibly reflecting the greater "masculinity" of industrial boss and worker roles.…”
