Stability of Tetracycline in Water and Liquid Manure

Abstract: The objective of this study was to establish a suitable model for the prediction of the environmental stability of antibiotics in water and liquid manure. The model consists of incubation systems for solutions with installations for stirring ventilation. It was used to examine the stability of tetracycline in ventilated and unventilated Ringer's solution and liquid pig manure for a period of 8 days. Tetracycline concentrations decreased significantly during the experiment. The fastest degradation was observed … Show more

“…Because OXY is excreted in faeces and urine also as 4-epimer, [11] and because such epimerisation is facilitated from pH environment around 6 [12], such as that in slurries and organically fertilised soils, the analytical strategy was addressed to transform the residual untransformed OXY in its 4-epimer. This was reached by storing the extracts in aqueous solution for more than 3 days at −20 • C [13].…”

“…A continuing problem in animal husbandry is the disposal of manure (8,11,18,20,39). Antibiotic resistance among bacteria in manure is of concern, because these organisms can leak into nearby groundwater.…”
