Heavy metal (HM) pollution is getting worse with the society progress. Identification and separation of HM ions are urgent issues in environmental protection and social development. In this work, 4‐bromo‐1,8‐naphthalic anhydride was first reacted with amino‐propylene glycol to synthesize naphthimide fluorophores bearing two hydroxyl groups. And then, –Br was substituents by 8‐mercaptoquinoline, 2‐mercaptoimidazole, and 4‐mercaptopyridine, respectively. Eventually, it was reacted with 1,5‐naphthalene diisocyanate (NDI) to synthesize fluorescent polyurethane (PU) films through the reaction between –OH and –NCO. It is found that the PU film not only has a specific identification ability to Hg2+/Hg+ and Fe3+ ions, but also can efficiently remove Hg2+/Hg+ and Fe3+ ions through adsorption. In addition, selective identification by fluorescence quenching was investigated. It is due to the photoinduced electron transfer mechanism (PET). Furthermore, the lowest detection limits for Fe3+, Hg2+, and Hg+ were 6.0 × 10−7 M, 4.7 × 10−7 M, and 9.7 × 10−7 M, respectively, which reflected the sensitivity of the probe and made it fluorescence probes. The three fluorescent small molecules were incorporated into PU, which not only retain their identification function, but also serve the purpose of adsorption and separation of HM ions.

The novel developed heterogeneous catalyst Ad/Pd‐UiO‐66 has been synthesized by hydrothermal technique. The prepared catalyst was identified by some analytical techniques such as Fourier transform‐infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR‐TEM), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM). The Ad/Pd‐UiO‐66 was used as catalyst in the Suzuki C–C coupling in the green aqueous media. This catalyst showed excellent efficiency for the C–C coupling of aryl halides with phenylboronic acid and 4‐methyl phenylboronic acid. The best results was recorded for coupling of iodobenzene with phenylboronic acid (95% conversion in 30 min). Furthermore, the stability and recyclability of the catalyst under optimized conditions were investigated. The catalyst was recovered and reused up to 5 times with no significant decrease in activity.

β‐Cyclodextrin has drawn significant attention as a special class of cyclic oligomers over the past few decades. They have been employed in many organic conversions as green alternative catalysts to perform satisfactorily in catalytic activity and modify the efficiency of organic reactions. Its availability, nontoxicity, low cost, renewability, and high performance in organic transformations are several benefits of cyclodextrins that have captured the interest of many research groups worldwide. In recent decades, great progress has been made in developing metal‐catalyzed coupling reactions to create carbon–carbon bonds. For the transition‐metal‐catalyzed cross‐coupling, using modified β‐cyclodextrin derivatives as catalysts is much more pleasant due to the obvious advantages such as valuable catalytic properties and the capability to create an inclusion complex with different metals. The particular purpose of this review is to summarize the application of β‐cyclodextrin‐based catalyst systems in Suzuki coupling reaction for the synthesis of biaryl compounds covering the years 2019–2023.
