Stable Z-strings with topological polarization in two Higgs doublet model

Abstract: We find that a Z-string is stable in a wide range of parameter space of the two Higgs doublet model due to a split into a pair of two topological Z-strings with fractional Z fluxes. This configuration, a bound state of the two strings connected by a domain wall, is called a vortex molecule. Although the vortex molecule has no net topological charge, the locally induced topological charge density is polarized, namely distributed positively around one constituent string and negatively around the other constituen… Show more

“…It would be also interesting to apply our approach, with certain, perhaps serious, modifications, to the actively developing holographic Higgs sector it is not excluded that the condition for the creation of quark-antiquark states that we used might have a counterpart for the creation of fermionantifermion pairs from the Higgs field and this could be exploited for a holographic prediction, e.g., of the Higgs mass. Also our approach could find applications in studies of the Z-string stability in the two Higgs doublet extension of the Standard Model [32].…”

“…If the number is two, the composite is stable. On the other hand, a single Z-string can be decomposed into a pair of two non-Abelian fractional Z-strings connected by one (or two) domain wall(s), constituting a vortex molecule [115].…”

“…A molecule of half-quantized vortices connected by a soliton or domain wall can be found in various systems such as multicomponent or multigap superconductors [94][95][96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103][104][105][106], coherently coupled multicomponent BECs [107][108][109][110][111][112][113][114][115][116][117][118][119][120][121][122], dense QCD of quark matter [123], and the two-Higgs doublet model [124] as a model beyond the standard model of elementary particles. Compared with these systems, the unique feature of 3 P 2 superfluids is that constituent half-quantized vortices are non-Abelian vortices, that is, characterized by a non-Abelian first homotopy group.…”
