“…JH biosynthesis is irreversibly stimulated in cultured Aedes aegypti CA following 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) addition at a concentration of 10 −6  M 43 . Fourth instar Bombyx mori CC-CA complexes likewise increased JH biosynthesis when cultured with 20E in a narrow concentration range, and this JH synthesis profile was concomitant with the elevation and subsequent decline in the transcript abundance of two JH biosynthetic enzymes 44 . In both A .…”

“…In all cases, the affinity of the metal cations for the diphosphate was more than 200 kcal/mol higher than for the aspartate residues. Based on these gas phase calculations, the deduced minimum equilibrium constant for formation of the diphosphate metal complex is at least 10 28 (Tables S5 and S6), in both cases, the affinities for Co 2+ or Mn 2+ are lower than the affinity for Mg 2+ in nice agreement with the measured lower K m (GDP) (higher affinity) (Mg 2+ = 1.18 μM, Co 2+ = 24.3 μM) and might be an explanation for the experimental differences in product specificity with different divalent metal ions. Note, one order of magnitude in K m represents 1.4 kcal/mol (ΔG) in interaction energies.…”

“…Aside from the naturally occurring agents regulating JH synthesis such as various neuropeptides (Stay and Tobe, 2007;Audsley et al, 2008;Yamanaka et al, 2008), 20E (Kaneko et al, 2011b), etc., there are possible three types of mode of actions by which synthetic compounds might act to block JH synthesis; allatocidal action, inhibition of JH biosynthetic enzyme activities, and inhibition of biosynthetic enzyme synthesis. The well-known anti-JH, precocene, inhibits JH synthesis by its allatocidal action (Schooneveld, 1979;Bowers and Soderlund, 1981).…”
