Abstract: Walking up and down stairs is a common and important activity of daily living. Women with fibromyalgia often show a reduced ability to perform this task. The objective of this study was to evaluate the test–retest reliability of stair negotiation tasks and to assess the impact of fibromyalgia symptoms on the ability to negotiate stairs.Forty-two women with fibromyalgia participated in this descriptive correlational study. “…Participants have to climb 10 stairs without handrails and using a self‐safe paced with a static start and timing commencing at the start and finishing when the first step arrives at the last stair 20–22,33 . In this regard, an excellent reliability (ICC = 0.972) was shown in a previous study in women with fibromyalgia under a single‐task condition 20 …”

“…Most falls among women with fibromyalgia occur while negotiating stairs or walking. 19 In this regard, previous studies in women with fibromyalgia used the 10-step stair ascent test, 20 developing the test "as quickly and safe" as participants can. 21,22 The 10-step stair ascent tests performance significantly correlated with the number of falls in the last year in women with fibromyalgia.…”
