Stakeholder Analysis and Social Network Analysis in the Decision-Making of Industrial Land Redevelopment in China: The Case of Shanghai

Abstract: Currently, many large Chinese cities have entered the postindustrial era, leaving a large amount of vacant, inefficiently utilized industrial land and buildings in the inner cities. Industrial land redevelopment (ILR) can benefit cities in multiple ways, such as by increasing urban public space, improving the quality of life of citizens, and improving the environment, and is considered an effective approach to enhance people’s wellbeing. However, large-scale ILR projects often raise a series of social issues i… Show more

“…It can be observed from Table 6 that the degree centrality and closeness centrality of the construction administration department are far ahead of other stakeholders, so these departments are at the absolute center; followed by the construction unit and recycling enterprise in the sub-center; the point centrality value and closeness centrality value of media, transportation unit and environmental assessment agency are the lowest. These results indicate that the construction administration department, as the core node, has the greatest influence in the network, and exerts influence on other stakeholders to a large extent; the four stakeholders, including construction administration department construction unit, construction company, and recycling enterprise, are located in the center of the whole network, because they frequently exchange information and are less restricted by other stakeholders within the network [ 29 , 30 ]. In contrast, the media, transportation unit, and environmental assessment agency have weak influence within the network and are prone to be affected by, and dependent on, other stakeholders to a large extent.…”

“…According to social systems theory, business management is embedded in a complex mesh of interactions between different units (stakeholders) within different systems. The network approach to SA considers stakeholders not as autonomous units, but rather as parts of a whole system, where the interactions between the units are assumed to be strongly related to achieve sustainable business management [40].…”

“…In sustainability research, there is more attention on the qualitative dimension of SNA, which is a complementary quantitative approach [40], providing more exploratory and descriptive information on different phenomena within a given system that influence a certain area of study. In this context, the present article aims to introduce a QSA approach by using TNA, which is based on a PESTEL model in SA, to categorize data based on stakeholder perceptions of sustainability aspects that influence biogas development in a central region of Sweden.…”

“…In recent years, economic transformation, mainly the transformation of development subject, model and structure, has been the focus of scholars' attention (Ma et al, 2018;Yang et al, 2018;Dong Y. et al, 2020;Kurnia et al, 2022). Around the development concept of innovation, coordination, greenness, openness, and sharing in the new era, industrial land transformation needs to balance economic, social and ecological benefits (Wu et al, 2020;Wang J.-C. et al, 2021;Pu et al, 2021). Due to the scarcity of urban land resources, industrial land transformation relies more on the tapping of existing land through the transformation of traditional industries and the development of new industries to adjust the industrial structure and improve land efficiency (Zhang et al, 2018;Jiang, 2021).…”

“…To discover which factors play a driving role in the process of transformation, scholars also analyze the dynamics driving industrial land transformation (Shu et al, 2018;Xia et al, 2020;Yue et al, 2022), involving economics, policy, and environmental protection. In addition, some studies have attempted to clarify the game relationships among various interests such as government, enterprises, and residents in the process of industrial land transformation to achieve a balance of interests among different property rights subjects (Gao and Chen, 2020;Lai et al, 2020;Wu et al, 2020).…”
