Standardized Outcomes Measures in Physical Therapy Practice for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Cerebral PALSY: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Cerebral palsy (CP) treatment includes physical therapy and various complementary therapies to the standard clinical treatment. However, there are not many reviews that focus on the methods used and evaluation procedures. This study aims to analyze which tools are most suitable for the evaluation and methodology of patients with CP treated with physical therapy. Following the PRISMA statement, through a PICOS strategy, PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, Science Direct, and Scielo were searched with … Show more

“…Since walking is a dynamic task, the impairment of motor Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine ability of children with cerebral palsy makes it difficult to maintain balance during dynamic walking. Children need to shorten their steps and reduce the swing of their bodies to sustain gait stability and maintain the center of gravity [24]. When the children's walking ability improves, their ability to maintain the center of gravity is better, and their 5 Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine ability to resist the body swing is stronger.…”

“…6 Its profound impact significantly disrupts the daily lives and overall functionality of those affected, causing notable distress and limitations to their quality of life. Despite some medical interventions available, such as physical therapy, 7 medication treatment, 8 surgical interventions, 9 nutrition interventions 10 and assistive devices, 11 a comprehensive and universally effective solution is currently lacking. Consequently, some patients continue to encounter persistent challenges and disruptions in their treatment.…”
