Standing wave performance test of IDT-SAW transducer prepared by silk-screen printing

Abstract: With the advantages of high performance and low loss, interdigital surface acoustic wave (IDT-SAW) transducers are widely used in the fields of nondestructive testing, communication and broadcasting. The production, performance and application of surface acoustic wave (SAW) actuators has become a research hotspot. Based on the basic principle of SAW, an IDT-SAW transducer is designed and fabricated using silk-screen printing in this work. The experiment results show that in terms of SAW performance, the fabric… Show more

“…However, the ability of IDT-based SAW device needs to be proved for clinical practise, especially in developing a multifunctional implantable bone device. Furthermore, a self-powering system is needed to electrically supply the IDTs, for example, hybrid triboelectric-electromagnetic generators is a promising technology [115] to be integrated with SAW device to avoid bulky and complex system to power up the SAW devices.…”

“…However, the ultrasonic separation technology cannot be applied without the microfluidic chip and the theory of acoustic radiation force; thus, it is necessary to develop a transducer that can generate an ultrasonic field. In order to prepare a transducer capable of generating a qualified surface acoustic wave standing wave field and separating micronsized particles in the oil, our team conducted related research and experiments [31][32][33][34].…”

“…At present, ultrasonic separation technology has been widely used in biomedical [74][75][76] and chemical industry fields [77][78][79], and with the increasing influence of biomedical and microchemical technologies [80] on human society, this technology will appear huge potential application value. Figure 3 shows a schematic diagram of a device for separating particles using acoustic surface standing waves and a working mechanism in our research group [31][32][33][34]. Two identical interdigital (IDT) electrodes are mounted on a piezoelectric substrate.…”

“…Due to the disadvantages of cleanroom fabrication techniques, several other approaches have been explored for fabricating SAW microfluidic devices, including screen printing 49 , liquid metal molding 50 – 54 , aluminum foil cutting 55 , and flexible printed circuit board coupling 56 58 . Additive manufacturing methods, such as inkjet printing and aerosol jet printing, provide a maskless and direct fabrication approach for various electrode materials.…”
