Stark- and Zeeman-effect of resonance lines of Ba I

Abstract: Laserspectroscopic investigations were performed on a collimated atomic beam of barium (natural isotope abundance). The metastable ground levels (D and D ) of the investigated lines were populated by a discharge burning in barium vapour directly in front of the oven hole. We could investigate 14 spectral lines between 580 and 690 nm. The tensor polarizabilities of the upper and the lower level as well as the differences in the scalar polarizabilities could be determined. Spectra in magnetic fields up to 0.03 T… Show more

“…These systems are the ones under consideration as frequency standards or are being used in atomic parity violation experiments. Measurements for some states have been omitted from the table, and some older or less precise results on Sc, Y, La and Lu [307], Cd [206], Ba [259,266,308], Hg [206], Yb [276], Sm and Eu [273] have also been omitted.…”

“…Determinations of polarizabilities of low lying odd parity barium J"1 levels were made by a number of high-resolution sub-Doppler methods, for example optical double resonance [7], level-crossing spectroscopy [8,9], quantum beat spectroscopy [10] and laser atomicbeam spectroscopy [11][12][13]. In the present work the quantum beat method has been applied to determine experimental values of the tensor polarizabilities of the 6snp P levels ranging from 8 to 15 and of the perturber 5d7p P for the first time.…”
