“…Published results for YFe 5 Al 7 compounds based on neutron diffraction data gave the indication that the formation of ferrimagnetic structures is preceded by shortrange order or frozen magnetic states due to Fe clusters on 8j sites [15]. However, short-range order above T c is also detected in YFe 4 Al 8 , as shown in this study, as well as in the isostructural DyFe 4 Al 8 [23]. The Mössbauer spectroscopy, which is very sensitive to small amounts of Fe on 8j sites [24], clearly indicates that the Fe atoms on both YFe 4 Al 8 and DyFe 4 Al 8 only occupy the 8f positions.…”

“…It will be interesting to see if a phase width for DyCu x Al 12-x exists. In addition, to the phase width of DyFe x Al 12-x (4.0 Յ x Յ 4.7) in the Dy/M/Al (M = Cr, Mn, Co, Ni), [5,8,9] the homogeneity range of related structures, such as AM x B 13-x (A = Ba, Sr, La, Eu; M = Cu, Ag; B = Al, Ga, In; 5 Յ x Յ 6.5) of NaZn 13 -type has been described. [10][11][12][13] We report our continued studies on the DyCu x Al 12-x phase and our findings of an intermediate Cu occupancy [ on the 8j sites by single-crystal diffraction data, the phase width, magnetic properties, and electrical conductivity as well as the TB-LMTO electronic band structure calculations.…”
