Static pointing error analysis of electro-optical detection systems

Abstract: Electro-optical detection systems have been widely utilized in many applications. The pointing accuracy is often seriously affected by static geometric errors. This article analyses the contributions of integrant geometric error sources by means of quaternions, and a parametric model is hence established. As to nonlinear errors, this article further proposes a semi-parametric model that is based on least squares collocation method. Test results demonstrate that both models can improve the pointing accuracy eff… Show more

“…However, in order to improve its pointing accuracy further, it is necessary to analyze errors that result from the platform's misalignment error, nonperpendicularity, initialization error and so on, and then relevant compensation models can be adopted. The detailed information has been presented and reported in Hong et al 9 and Tang et al 17…”

“…All other methods also measured the error motions of the top rotary table or the external spindle. 1325 The eccentricity and the tilt of the top table relative to the axis of rotation, that is, the inner spindle, were ignored. From equation (2), it can be estimated that even a very small radial motion of the table in the tangential direction of the grating disk will generate an obvious error of the grating, because the encoder size is normally small.…”

“…It is known that longer testing times result in increased environmental influence. Therefore, many previous studies have proposed various multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) measuring methods for an axis of rotation (for spindles) and a rotary table, 1325 but they all investigated the error separation techniques among combined errors. The rotary angular positioning error caused by other effective errors, such as tilt and radial errors, has little been investigated.…”

“…Huang et al [3] analyzed the errors from a telescope's kinematics using a semi-parametric regression model to eliminate the geometric and nonlinear errors. Tang et al [4] analyzed geometric error sources using quaternions. They proposed a semi-parametric model based on a least square collocation method.…”
