Statistical analysis of lightning current parameters: Measurements at Morro do Cachimbo Station

Abstract: [1] Most of the available data concerning lightning current parameters were obtained by means of measurements made in temperate regions in the Northern Hemisphere. Considering the influence of regional aspects on such parameters, the need for references concerning lightning protection practices specifically in tropical zones requires dedicated data. An experimental investigation program has been carried on in Brazil since 1971 in order to provide data for characterization of local lightning current parameters.… Show more

“…To compare the results calculated by using transmission line theory and FDTD method with the results published [1,2] (computed by means of ATP software), the configuration of the instrumented tower installed at Morro do Cachimbo Station [11], illustrated in Figure 5(a) [1] is considered. The tower is excited at the top by a step current with two different front times as indicated in Figure 6.…”

“…Each feature is characterized by its uncertainty; the phenomenon is typically analyzed on a statistical basis, corroborated by means of extensive measurements collected in instrumented towers [40][41][42][43] or in artificially-initiated lightning channels [44,45].…”
