Statistics of an adiabatic charge pump

Abstract: We investigate the effect of time-dependent cyclic-adiabatic driving on the charge transport in quantum junction. We propose a nonequilibrium Greens function formalism to study statistics of the charge pumped (at zero bias) through the junction. The formulation is used to demonstrate charge pumping in a single electronic level coupled to two (electronic) reservoirs with time dependent couplings. Analytical expression for the average pumped current for a general cyclic driving is derived. It is found that for z… Show more

“…This happens because the coupling induced lifetime is neglected in the QME analysis, which is essential to observe geometric effects due to such modulations. Such effects are usually incorporated using non-equilibrium Greens function technique 67 . We also observe that in single electron counting measurements, where one keeps track of only the incoming or outgoing electron transfer processes between the leads and system, the geometric curvature is zero.…”

“…Even though there exists formally exact methods of treating such set-ups [45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53], they are generally quite difficult to use, bein computationally demanding. To simplify calculations, often the adiabatic approximation is used [54][55][56]. The adiabatic approximation assumes the environment parameters are modulated very slowly such that the system is always at a non-equilibrium steady state with the instantaneous environment.…”

“…The dynamical response of a junction to the modulation of a voltage or to the irradiation by a light source offers intriguing means of probing and controlling the system's dynamics [1]. Applications include optically irradiated nanoscale junctions [2,3], electron pumping [4][5][6], pump-probe spectroscopy [7,8], and AC current rectification [9,10]. The exploration of time-dependent phenomena has a long history [1,11], which mostly centers on periodic drivings, typically induced with microwave radiation.…”

“…NEGFs have proved indispensable in calculating FCS in quantum conductors with electron-phonon [68][69][70][71][72] and electron-electron [73,74] interactions, and it has been applied to study fluctuations in the transient regime [74][75][76]. Recently, Yadalam and Harbola used FCS NEGFs to study charge pumping through a driven quantum dot [4,5].…”
