Status of Swamp Deer Rucervus duvaucelii duvaucelii (G. Cuvier, 1823) in grassland-wetland habitats in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, India

Abstract: Swamp Deer is an endemic species of the Indian subcontinent, mainly inhabiting tall grasslands in river floodplains. Populations of the northern subspecies (Rucervus duvaucelii duvaucelii), restricted to the Terai regions of northern India and western Nepal, have undergone dramatic declines over the past two─three decades.
