Status of Tin Mineral Resources according to the Geological Characteristics and Mineralization in Mongolia

Abstract

A strategy for establishing the supply chain of tin, which is used in various industries, is necessary because tin's supply and demand are highly dependent on a few countries. Focusing on Mongolia as a resource-rich country, this study examines the current state of tin mineral resources and characteristics of tin mineralization according to the tectonic environment. The magmatic activity that occurred from the Late Paleozoic to the Late Mesozoic is related to tin mineralization in Mongolia. Most tin ore bodies occur as wolframite-cassiterite-quartz veins of postmagmatic hydrothermal type. They were concentrated in central and eastern region of Mongolia. The tin ore-bearing igneous rocks in Mongolia include ongonite, granodiorite-granite, leucogranite, and lithium-fluorine granite.
