Steam Eği̇ti̇mi̇nde Sanatin Yeri̇

Abstract

STEAM is a concept consisting of the combination of the initials of the words science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. STEAM, considered as one of the ways to invest in the future for economic prosperity and a good life, has a educational approach that includes many variables STEAM can be applied in the school community as well as in the curricula. Many processes, such as robotic applications, development of their own devices, or project-driven production, are also part of this training approach. Education of STEAM is offered at many levels from preschool to doctoral level. This concept, which emerged at the end of the 1950s as STEM but known as STEAM in recent years, has also incorporated art, a very important field. Because STEM, which has four fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), was lacking in terms of creativity and innovation process. This research focuses on this issue. This study was carried out in conjunction with the literature review and an application example. STEAM Education, suggests that people can be better mathematicians, engineers, and scientists by artistic thinking. So art can be said to be a complement to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As a result, art for STEAM education provides a multidisciplinary education. The STEAM training approach is an educational approach that should be applied to ensure that countries or societies develop in many ways and compete economically.
