“…There is an abundant literature on processes for the recovery of manganese from relatively high-grade pyrolusite ore. Of the many processes, the most interesting approach for the recovery of manganese from this lowgrade material appeared to be that based on the use of pickle liquor from the steel industry. Hoak and Coull (1) have shown that pickle liquor, which contains free sulphuric acid and ferrous sulphate, would give a 98% extraction from ores containing 15 to 2S% manganese.
