Stepwise pathway for early evolutionary assembly of dissimilatory sulfite and sulfate reduction

Abstract: Microbial dissimilatory sulfur metabolism utilizing dissimilatory sulfite reductases (Dsr) influenced the biochemical sulfur cycle during Earth’s history and the Dsr pathway is thought to be an ancient metabolic process.
