Steroidal Glycosides from the Underground Parts of Solanum sodomaeum.

Abstract: Steroids U 0300Steroidal Glycosides from the Underground Parts of Solanum sodomaeum. -The new steroidal glycoside (I), tentatively named solasodoside, is isolated from the underground parts of Solanum sodomaeum L. along with 7 known steroidal glycosides. Their antiproliferative activity against human promyelocytic leukemia (HL-60) cells is investigated, and 5 compounds exhibit stronger activity than cisplatin. -(ONO*, M.; NISHIMURA, K.; SUZUKI, K.; FUKUSHIMA, T.; IGOSHI, K.; YOSHIMITSU, H.; IKEDA, T.; NOHARA, … Show more

“…S. sodomaeum) is a wild solanaceous species native to southern Africa and a common weed in Northern Africa and Southern Europe (Ono et al, 2006). This species is rich in alkaloids, steroids and saponins and glycoalkaloids (Elabbara, 2014) but not previously explored as potential source of isolation of potent endophytic fungi that may be used as biocontrol agents.…”

“…S. sodomaeum glycoalkaloids have been shown to be efficient in several types of human skin cancer therapies [6]. Steroidal glycosides extracted from the roots of the species exhibit antiproliferative activity in resistance to human promyelocytic leukaemia (HL-60) cells [7].…”

“…Previous investigations on S. sodomaeum have focussed on its alkaloids [7,8]; therefore, the present paper attempts to valorise S. sodomaeum in relation to its contents of fatty acids and essential oil. According to our bibliographic investigation, the current study could be the first report on the variation of the fatty acid and essential oil compositions of S. sodomaeum fruits according to the maturation stage, as well as evaluation of the antibacterial properties of the essential oil and the antioxidant properties of both essential and vegetal oils.…”

“…Glicosídeos esteroidais ONO et al, 2006;TIOSSI et al 2012), flavonoides (SILVA et al, 2003) e alcaloides pirrólicos (EL-SAYED et al, 1998;EVANS, SOMANABANDHU, 1980) tem sido descritos como constituintes químicos presentes em Solanum. Solasonina e solamargina são glicoalcaloides majoritários encontrados em pelo menos 100 espécies desse gênero (BLANKEMEYER et al, 1998).…”
