“…Previous studies showed that feeding zebrafish with continuously high carbohydrate diets increases body glucose levels for prolonged times, as indicated in the study of Dandin et al (2022). It would be expected that glucose withdrawal in both induction protocols would reduce the high blood levels through the recovery of insulin response (Longkumer et al, 2020).…”

“…As a widely recognized food sweetener, stevioside has documented pharmacological benefits spanning antidiabetic, antihypertensive, and renoprotective actions. 18,25,26 In cisplatin-induced mouse AKI, stevioside inhibits oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis by regulating the expression of cisplatin-activated extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), thereby reducing the nephrotoxicity of cisplatin. 27 In addition, studies of renal fibrosis have found that stevioside can inhibit unilateral ureteral obstruction-induced renal fibrosis in mice, and its anti-fibrotic mechanism is related to the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, which can increase the expression of STAT3 and TGF-β1 mediated by nuclear factor kappa-B and the downregulation of Smad blocks the Smad-mediated fibrosis signaling pathway.…”

“…18 In diet-induced obese zebrafish models, Ste regulates blood sugar by improving glucose tolerance and insulin resistance and alleviating oxidative stress. 19 GA treatment significantly improved diabetic symptoms of STZ. 20 Notably, Lithocarpus litseifolius (Hance) Chun and Rubus suavissimus S. Lee have long boiled into a sweet tea for drinking; in addition, boiling the leaves creates a sugar water than can be processed into a sweetener in Guangxi, China.…”
