Stiffness and damping characteristics of conical multirecess hybrid journal bearing for different load arrangements

Abstract: This paper presents the theoretical analysis on the effect of two different load arrangements for a conical multirecess hybrid journal bearing. For this analysis constant flow valve restrictors are used under micropolar lubricant for different semi cone angles. The modified Reynolds equation using micropolar fluid flow on the conical surface has been solved with the use of FEM and Galerkin's technique applying proper boundary conditions in the iterative scheme. The study suggests that the configuration LA I ca… Show more

“…Rana et al (2014) theoretically studied conical journal bearing with CFV using micropolar fluid and noted that the bearing is much stable for larger pressure developed. Rana et al (2019) further extended their work and studied hybrid conical journal bearing for 90°and 45°loading configurations; Rana et al (2019) observed that 45°loading configuration is more suitable for minimum thickness of fluid film, bearing damping and stiffness. Khakse et al (2016) mainly compared the hydrostatic and hybrid mode of conical journal bearing using orifice and capillary compensators, and it is found that hydrostatic conical bearing provide good damping effect.…”

“…In literature, a lot of researchers have investigated the performance properties of the hydrostatic journal bearing with Newtonian fluid in detail [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. In these studies, effects of the bearing geometry [5][6][7] and structure of the orifice [8][9][10] on the static and dynamic characteristics of the bearing, as well as stability conditions of the hydrostatic journal bearing-shaft system [11][12][13] were theoretically and experimentally studied. In the hydrostatic bearing-rotor system, when the rotor operates at a high rotational speed, friction occurs between the layer of the lubricant film during the fluid flow and the friction leads to increase the temperature of the lubricant and decrease viscosity.…”

“…Rajput and Sharma (2013) presented the effect of micropolar lubricant on four-cavity conical hybrid bearing system via micropolar fluid theory and Galerkin method. Rana et al (2019) detailed dynamic characteristics and stability of a conical hybrid journal bearing for two different load arrangements. By comparing the textures of different shapes and sizes, Charitopoulos et al (2013) found manufacturing errors have different improvements in the lubrication performance of textured thrust bearing.…”
