Stimuli Responsive and Antimicrobial Cellulose-Chitosan Hydrogels Containing Polydiacetylene Nanosheets

Abstract: Herein, we report a stimuli responsive hydrogel with inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli prepared by chemical crosslinking of carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCs) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC). The hydrogels were prepared by esterification of chitosan (Cs) with monochloroacetic acid to produce CMCs which was then chemically crosslinked to HEC using citric acid as the crosslinking agent. To impart a stimuli responsiveness property to the hydrogels, polydiacetylene-zinc oxide (PDA-ZnO) nanosheets were synth… Show more

“…Te solutions were fltered through 0.25 μM PTFE syringes into glass vials, and 45 μL of each solution was transferred onto quartz cuvettes before analysis. Te particle size distribution and polydispersity index were then measured by using a Beckman Coulter DelsaMax PRO dynamic light scattering analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Indianapolis, United States) [35,36].…”
