Stirling system optimization for series hybrid electric vehicles

Abstract: There have been many studies conducted to replace the conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) with a more efficient engine, due to increasing regulations over vehicles’ emissions. Throughout the years, several external combustion engines were considered as alternatives to these traditional ICEs for their intrinsic benefits, among which are Stirling machines. These were formerly utilized in conventional powertrains; however, they were not implemented in hybrid vehicles. The purpose of this study is to inv… Show more

“…VANET provides a system that can revolutionise traffic services and minimise the threat of road accidents. Each vehicle that becomes part of the network also manages and controls the communication on this network [4][5][6][7]. Many types of research have been published to utilise and perform reliable connections [8][9][10][11].…”

“…Stirling engines are used in multiple applications such as solar power generation [5,6], computer chip cooling [7], submarines [8], the domestic use of heat and power [9], vehicles [10,11], and the Stirling cryocooler [12]. Said engine comes in a variety of types and shapes; however, its basic shape known as a Low-Temperature Differential (LTD) gamma type Stirling engine is used in the research (refer to Figure 1).…”

“…At lower ambient temperatures, the Stirling engine, used as a heat pump, absorbs heat at a lower temperature and emits it into the heating system at a higher temperature. During the expansion process, it draws heat from external sources at ambient temperature, and during the compression process, it releases this heat into the building, providing heating [6].…”
