Stokes efficiency of temporally rocked ratchets

Abstract: We study the generalized efficiency of an adiabatically rocked ratchet with both spatial and temporal asymmetry. We obtain an analytical expression for the generalized efficiency in the deterministic case. Generalized efficiency of the order of 50% is obtained by fine tuning of the parameter range. This is unlike the case of thermodynamic efficiency where we could readily get an enhanced efficiency of upto 90%. The observed higher values of generalized efficiency is attributed to be due to the suppression of b… Show more

“…In the present work, we are mainly interested in a rocked ratchet model with a time asymmetric driving. Enhannced thermodynamic efficiency and Stokes efficiency were observed in this particular ratchet model in a suitable range of physical parameters [31]. In the present study, we observe that in the deterministic limit, the larger spatial asymmetry in the potential enhances the coherence in transport, at the same time the temperature and driving frequency degrades the quality of transport.…”

“…We have studied the nature of average current, < j >, diffusion coefficient, D and Peclet number, P e as a function of various physical parameters of the model. This model has been studied in detail both in adiabatic and nonadiabatic limit [31,32]. However, the main interest of those studies were on the efficient operation of the ratchet, hence the physical quantities of interest were different forms of efficiency of energy transduction.…”

“…Simultaneously, the AMV is changed form positive to negative value. Therefore the Brownian particle can change its direction with increasing α and transport in not effective due to efficiency of the transport is zero or negative when the variance is larger than the AMV [45,46]. From Figs.…”
