Stoma complications: a literature overview

Abstract: Stoma formation is a commonly performed procedure in colorectal surgery as a part of operations performed for malignant- and inflammatory bowel disease. Stoma formation is a simple, but not trivial, undertaking. When performed badly, it can leave the patients with a legacy of complications such as leakage, prolapse, parastomal hernia and retraction.
