“…With the former restraints, the injuries run the spectrum from laryngeal contusions to decapitation and with the 3‐point restraints, from minor laryngeal lacerations and contusions to cervical vertebral dislocation. In addition, asphyxiation resulting from shoulder harness 2‐ and 3‐point seat belts has been reported (29–31). The risk of submarining (the occupant slides under the belt) is much lower in car occupants wearing 3‐point restraints than in those wearing shoulder belts only when involved in head‐on collisions.…”
