Strategic Management Thinking and Resilience as Management Skills

Abstract

One of the main requirements for companies to survive and succeed is that they make optimal decisions, especially those of a strategic nature that have a great impact on the organization. Therefore, one of the most valued management skills today and directly related to leadership is the ability to apply strategic thinking in decision making and problem solving. When thinking strategically, leaders have to inherently develop another management skill, which is resilience. This soft skill, which in recent times has had great importance and impact, is vital to face the adversities that the business environment is suffering due to the drastic and dynamic changes that cause great uncertainty. According to the RAE, the meaning of resilience in its first meaning is “the ability of a living being to adapt to a disturbed agent or an adverse state or situation.” Adapting this definition to the business context, it can be said that resilient people are those who face adversity, extreme situations and failures, quickly adapt to changes and uncertainty, recover and emerge stronger from it.
